CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)
The mission of the College of Denturists of Ontario (the College) is to regulate and govern the profession of denturism in the public interest.
Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, the Quality Assurance Committee endorses continuing education or professional development designed to promote continuing competence and practice improvement.
The College requires its members to maintain their professional knowledge through appropriate continuous learning and professional education on an annual basis.
The College promotes the philosophy that denturists keep their knowledge up to date and maintain competence in their practices throughout their careers. Members must strive to deliver the highest standard of professional care and keep current with changes in technology and innovations in profession.
The College has established continuing education requirements for denturists as part of the Quality Assurance Regulation.
This manual outlines the guidelines for fulfilling the requirements set out by the College.
The objective of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program is to promote competence and professionalism at all stages of a denturist's career. To be eligible for credit, activities must have significant intellectual and/or practical content related to the practice of denturism and/or the management of the denturist practice. Activities can also be related to the professional responsibilities or ethical obligations of the participant.
QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
Practitioners are required to obtain continuing professional development credits on a per year basis along with the registration term. Members need to submit all of their hours prior to the April 14th registration renewal deadline.
It is the responsibility of all denturists to report their CPD credit hours. Credit hours should be reported as they are acquired.
Denturists are responsible for ensuring that their CPD credit hours are reported on online. Denturists must also maintain proof of all CPD taken during the three-year cycle.
RECORDS OF CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY
It is the denturist's responsibility to maintain evidence of CPD completion (i.e., course descriptions, certificates, receipts, course syllabi, etc.), as this information may be requested by an assessor and/or the Quality Assurance Committee.
One hour = 1 credit
Only active hours of lecture, instruction or participation are eligible.
Denturists must obtain a minimum of 60 CPD credits every three years with a minimum of 10 CPD credits per year. 30 of the 60 credits must be in the structured category. The remaining 30 credits can be structured or unstructured. Please see the 2016-17 CPD Guide for more detailed information.
